All about the Tallebudgera school camp

So what is the Tallebudgera camp all about?

Tallebudgera Beach Outdoor Education School is located within the Tallebudgera Outdoor Recreation Centre, bordered by the Pacific Ocean, Tallebudgera Creek and the Gold Coast Highway is adjacent to the Burleigh Mountain National Park and Tallebudgera Creek Estuary.

What will we do on camp?
This is a list of the activities we will be taking part in during the day:
  • Beach games
  • Surf skills
  • Canoeing
  • Circus Arts
  • Orienteering
  • Fencing
On Wednesday afternoon, we will have time in the swimming pool for an hour - so don't forget your swimming gear!

Where do we sleep?

We sleep in cabins of about 7 people.  The beds are bunk beds.  The best thing is...your bathroom is en suite which means you don't have to leave your room to go to the bathroom at night - so you don't have to wake up your friends in the middle of the night.

What do we we need to take?

  • Sun safe hat (broad brimmed) - no baseball type caps
  • sunglasses (optional)
  • T-Shirts (must have sleeves)
  • Underwear (at least 3 changes)
  • Warm long sleeved jumper or tracksuit top (evenings can be cool)
  • Long pants (jeans/leggings/tracksuit pants)
  • beach towel
  • bath towel
  • swimmers
  • Sun shirt (compulsory)
  • sneakers and sandals.  Thongs can be worn around the cabins, but are not allowed in the dining room.
  • old pair of closed in shoes for canoeing/ water shoes - these will get wet
  • pyjamas
  • toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, soap, roll-on deodorant
  • sunscreen and roll-on insect repellant
  • camera (optional)
  • sleeping bag or single sheet set
  • blanket or qult
  • pillow
  • garbage bag for wet and dirty clothes

DO NOT BRING expensive clothing or shoes, iPods, mobile phones, watches or any jewellery

if you do bring these, we will keep them for you until we return home after camp - this is for their safety.

What kind of food might we eat? Take a look at a sample menu:

  6. It is great to see Tallebudgera Recreation Centre is operational.
I remember going there with my family and friends when I was about 11yrs old with the parish I grew up in. We had many church camps full of fun and excitement, I remember this one the most. Hannah's Mum-Kathleen.

PS I know that the centre has been renovated and updated since my time there.

  18. I remember when I went to Tallebudgera camp, I was in the dolphins group. We had to write a song and our song was the tune of On Top Of Old Smokey, only we were on top of Big Burleigh. We weren't lucky enough to have cabins with an ensuite, we had a big dormitory with lots of beds. I am looking foward to helping out on the Friday.

    1. Hi. There are not really alternatives available unless your child has a diagnosed intolerance or allergy. However, the food is very kid friendly and there is a lot on offer at mealtimes, eg fruit, bread. I had an incredibly fussy eater with me last trip, but they managed to fill up on sides, fruit and bread. Hope this helps. Your son will live the experience.
